Green Building

Kelly McArdle Construction is the premier green builder in the Charlotte vicinity.  From the beginning, they have built “green homes” long before green building had become the thing to do.  From day one, careful attention was always made from a durability standpoint, flashing details, building science and energy efficiency.  More recently the extra steps have been taken to raise the bar and get the homes they built certified by a third party certification.  As one of the early adopters of green building certifications, Kelly McArdle Construction built one of the first homes in the State ofNorth Carolinato earn the Platinum Level certification for the LEED for Homes program developed by the USGBC.  They have also built one of the first homes to achieve both the Gold and Emerald levels to the National Green Building Standard created by the National Association of Home Builders.  These homes also met the high standards of the Department of Energy’s Builder’s Challenge Program and Kelly McArdle was one of the first 200 builders in theUnited Statesto meet these strict guidelines.

Green Building follows five simple basic guidelines; Resource Efficiency, Energy Efficiency, Water Efficiency, Indoor Air quality and sustainable site considerations.  As a result of the above criteria, these homes are more durable, comfortable, safer, healthier and energy efficient.  Although the green basics are the same there are many different programs to choose from.  Kelly McArdle has forgone the proper training to build to all these specific certifications:

  • National Green Building Standard
  • LEED for Homes
  • Earthcraft House
  • Healthy Built Homes
  • Energy Star
  • DOE Builder’s Challenge
  • Environments for Living
  • Indoor Air Plus
